Principal's Message

As principal of Monterey Heights Elementary, I proudly welcome you to our nest and the 2016-17 school year! Together, we will create a year of excellence for our children while focusing on the whole child.  We will continue with the focus of increased student achievement, increased student and family engagement, and continue to implement the CA Common Core Standards.  We will provide an increase of daily student  listening and speaking opportunities, and the use of language in mathematics, reading and writing. We will create a school where safety, respect, responsibility and accountability, support evident!

We understand that building positive, strong and caring relationships is vital for student learning and success for every child. Learning involves trying new experiences, making mistakes, trying again, sharing ideas, and collaborating with others.  It is not an easy process and involves hard work by everyone on our campus-- the principal, the teachers, the families, and most importantly, the students. We want our students to learn lifelong skills and traits to become caring and independent citizens, to recognize their worth and potential while learning to help and serve, in an ever changing diverse world. We are determined and up for the challenge as we strive for and deliver excellence.

Research and experience shows us that a parent’s/guardian’s positive involvement in a child’s education is directly related to his/her success in school. When your child is successful, our school is successful. Your support provides the foundation for students to come to school prepared to learn- mentally emotionally, and physically. Academics and appropriate social and emotional development requires practice, just like football, piano, and dance. To maximize your child’s success, emphasize the importance of coming to school to learn through the following:

-Ensure that your child is at school every day on time
-Expect and support positive behavior at school
-Attend parent/teacher conferences and school events
-Monitor your child’s homework daily
-Read with your child or have your child read daily
-Get involved

There are many ways you can get involved at school. Check out our awesome PTA. They do so much to support our school, students and staff.  Your participation in the PTA fundraisers is a critical part in making these events possible. We also have other committees and ways of getting involved .  If interested in volunteering, contact our amazing parent volunteer coordinator to provide you with volunteer information. She can be reached by calling the school or via email at

You will find your child’s teacher is your best resource and I encourage you to build a positive partnership with them. I look forward to becoming partners with you and making this a positive, exciting, and successful year for our students. I am honored to be your Principal at Monterey Heights Elementary.  Here’s to an AMAZING school year!!

Our mission at Monterey Heights is to prepare students for life through experiential learning that addresses the needs of the whole child. We strive to provide educational excellence for all students in a safe and secure environment that promotes academic and social growth, along with a healthier lifestyle, to inspire our students to reach their goals through academics, leadership, and character building. This will prepare our students to be caring and independent citizens to recognize their worth and potential while learning to help, serve, and develop a cross-cultural understanding. We welcome parents and the community as an integral part of the learning process.
